There are five ways to monitor employee performance. Number 1: Watch employees work. One of the most effective ways to monitor an employee's performance is with your own eyes. Watching an employee perform a task will tell you more much about that employee's performance than just about any batch of data removed from the action. Especially if you are having difficulties helping an employee succeed with a particular task, watch that employee while he does the task. You'll find out exactly what's going wrong and how he can do it better. The second way to monitor performance is ask for an account. In every one-on-one conversation with every employee, you need to be asking for an account of what that person has done since your last conversation: "What concrete actions did you take?
