Most management practices assume stability. Even change management still relies on the Lewin "freeze, unfreeze, re-freeze" metaphor. How many of us are in a stable "freeze" state? No one. We never get to be in a stable frozen state anymore.
Once we get it through our heads that there will never be stability we need to go back and look at our management practices, such as compensation, and really figure out how we can make them work in an unstable world.
