Wounded Warriors Gain Free Computer & Internet Literary Training with the CompTIA Educational Foundation & The Training Associates

Westborough, MA. - July 14, 2009The Training Associates, The American Legion, Certiport, C-Trec, and the National Cristina Foundation banded together with the CompTIA Education Foundation to enable free computer and Internet literacy training for wounded warriors and other U.S. military veterans in Houston.

As part of the Foundation’s Creating Futures program, veterans received free training toward Certiport’s Internet and Computing Core Certification (IC³®) for the last two months in order to help launch their IT careers. The Foundation hopes to repeat the program around the country to help as many service men and women transition smoothly into the private sector after they retire from the military.

“I was very impressed when I heard about the IC3 certification program that CompTIA and Certiport were offering to our veterans, and I welcomed the opportunity to be a part of it,” said Frederina “Freddi” Jensen of Jensen Enterprises, who donated her time through The Training Associates and became the class trainer in Houston. “Having been a part of the training industry for a number of years, it was a pleasure to be able to dedicate my skills to help these brave individuals move their lives forward in the next chapter of their lives following their service careers. I consider it a privilege to have played an important part in this life-changing program.”

Andrea Turner, Vice President of Operations at The Training Associates said, "When the opportunity to become involved with CompTIA's Creating Futures program came to fruition, we were excited to offer our resources for this great cause. In addition to our vast pool of expert trainer talent across the country, we were able to match up additional partners for provision of testing vouchers, materials, training, and testing facilities in order to make this event a success for servicemen and servicewomen, giving them much needed skill sets to apply for employment.  The Training Associates has a long history of giving back to people in need, whether it is time or monetary support, and we are pleased to have helped a very deserving group of veterans in Houston."

IC3 training provides the core skills and knowledge necessary to use some computer applications and the Internet, gives a resume-building standard certification, and supplies the foundation necessary to further enhance productivity and marketability with other desktop application-specific certifications.  The training is an online program, accessible anywhere 24/7 with an Internet connection.  Training, mentoring, courseware, practice exams, and certification vouchers are provided at no cost to Creating Futures participants.

U.S. Army veteran Emmanuel Vasquez participated in the training in Houston and became IC3 certified. “I really liked the benchmarking part of the program as the quizzes helped to prepare me for the materials that I would be learning,” commented Vasquez. “The IC3 training is a good starting point in the IT field and provides a brief overview of many IT-related aspects.  I am looking forward to moving onto the CompTIA A+® training.”
