U.K.-Based Addenbrooke's Hospital Picks SumTotal to Boost Workplace Performance

With today's news, Addenbrooke's becomes the third in a string of European customers, the others being Inmarsat and Lloyds TSB, who have announced their use of SumTotal's solution in recent weeks.

    MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 13,
2005--SumTotal(TM) Systems (Nasdaq:SUMT), the largest provider of
learning and business performance technologies and services, announced
that Addenbrooke's Hospital, a prestigious three-star NHS Foundation
Trust based in Cambridge, United Kingdom, has launched SumTotal's LMS
as its core system to manage the learning and development of its staff
and to deliver assessment and measurement of all learning undertaken
at the hospital. Implemented by SumTotal's U.K.-based partner Learning
Management Services, Addenbrooke's selected SumTotal because of its
potential for ROI.

With today's news, Addenbrooke's becomes the third in a string of
European customers, the others being Inmarsat and Lloyds TSB, who have
announced their use of SumTotal's solution in recent weeks.

"The functionalities and benefits of this solution far outweigh
the cost. Along with that, SumTotal demonstrated that it was the clear
leader among LMS providers serving the healthcare industry," said
George Divanis, CIO of Addenbrooke's Hospital. "The hospital will now
be able to address initiatives such as the National Project for IT
(NPfIT), Clinical Negligence Scheme for Trusts (CNST) and Agenda for
Change (KSF) with minimum effort and through a single system."

With approximately 1,100 beds, Addenbrooke's Hospital employs over
8,400 staff dedicated to the provision of a wide range of clinical and
non-clinical services. The hospital contains over 50 specialized
departments, all previously managing and administrating their own
learning and development activities.

Centralizing all learning within the hospital is expected to
deliver significant efficiencies in terms of management and
administration costs, and to enable a greater focus on the learning
needs of the individual as well as the organization itself. Indeed,
the introduction of bite-sized e-learning modules, accessible to staff
directly from hospital wards, is already set to improve staff
productivity, motivation and moral, believes Divanis.

"Instant access to learning, knowledge and expertise is highly
valued by staff, especially when it does not hinder delivery against
their primary responsibility -- patient care," Divanis stated. "In
terms of human resource management, implementing this solution allows
us to attract, motivate and retain talented and skilled staff, while
engendering a true learning culture across the hospital."

The new system enables Addenbrooke's Hospital to deliver and
measure the Trust's investment in staff performance and to ensure that
all legislated learning is completed and kept in date. Authorization
processes for course attendance are also managed by SumTotal's
platform.

"We now have an effective means to monitor, utilize and deliver
knowledge and to assess the effectiveness of our learning and
development against key strategic objectives," said Divanis.
"Compliance and performance reporting are huge undertakings within the
health service, and this has been made all the more simple through the
implementation of this platform."

Finding a solution capable of addressing such a broad scope of
requirements was essential if the hospital was to achieve its vision
of a core learning and development community, confirms Tony Wardle,
director at Learning Management Services.

"SumTotal delivers impressive functionality and scalability, which
meant Addenbrooke's Hospital could address a plethora of needs,"
Wardle commented. "Its superior interoperability gives the option of
linking to almost any other system, enabling us to structure a virtual
learning community for the hospital."

"Addenbrooke's Hospital has revolutionized its learning
environment, signaling the way ahead for the Health Service as a
whole. The benefits extend beyond staff and hospital management
alone," added Divanis.

"We believe that patients will benefit from the boost to
organizational performance that this solution will deliver," said Don
Fowler, chief executive of SumTotal Systems. "Alongside empowering
staff to manage their own career development, we see this platform as
a vehicle for the powerful exchange of knowledge and information
across departments, which will enable Addenbrooke's medical
professionals to improve the way they do their jobs."
