WESTON, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 13, 2007--Ultimate Software
(Nasdaq:ULTI), a leading provider of end-to-end strategic human
resources, payroll, and talent management solutions, announced today
that Swedish Covenant Hospital, a nonprofit facility with more than
2,000 employees that has served the residents of Chicago's north and
northwestern communities for nearly 120 years, has increased the
strategic contributions of its human resources team with Ultimate
Software's UltiPro.
Unhappy with the customer service and human resources
functionality provided by the service bureau it had been using,
Swedish Covenant switched to UltiPro in 2004. Using UltiPro's
functionality and the extra time that has become available since going
"live," the hospital's HR team has undertaken more value-added
activities, such as developing total compensation statements for its
entire workforce, revamping its new hire orientation program,
delivering reports to more than 100 members of the hospital management
team, and nominating the company for FORTUNE Magazine's annual "100
Best Places to Work" list. Swedish Covenant's human resources
department has moved its day-to-day operations from task-focused to
more strategic by:
-- rolling out manager self-service and employee self-service to
automate many paper-based processes, improve the integrity of
employee-related data, and give both managers and employees
the added benefit of being able to gather more human resources
information relevant to them on their own, without contacting
HR
-- taking advantage of Ultimate Software's benefits enrollment
offering that has given the company greater control of its
benefits management processes, created efficiencies, and
reduced redundant data entry
-- using UltiPro's library of more than 600 standard and
customizable reports to develop compensation statements for
its workforce, expedite cumbersome year-end reporting, and
analyze trends
"As a nonprofit, Swedish Covenant wants to keep administrative
costs as low as possible and at the same time attract and retain the
best talent," said Amy Liss, HR manager for Swedish Covenant. "UltiPro
is helping us accomplish that goal."
Swedish Covenant began introducing online self-service to managers
and employees in 2005. Today, managers have 24-7 rights to details
about their associates, such as employee leave of absence reports,
performance review histories, and employee profiles. Employees can see
personal information, current and past compensation records, and the
status of their required annual validation that includes mandated
certifications, health tests, and licensures.
"Before UltiPro, we could not be confident that our workforce
information was up to date. Now we know it's current because the
responsibility for maintaining that information has been moved to the
people who know it best -- our employees themselves. This has reduced
the amount of questions we receive and allowed us to direct our
efforts to more significant projects," said Liss. "UltiPro's Web
functionality is a great service for our employees and managers
because they can get information when they need it from any location
with an Internet connection."
Another project that Liss believes is adding value to Swedish
Covenant is her team's handling of benefits enrollment online through
UltiPro. Piloted at Swedish Covenant in 2006, the benefits enrollment
feature-set lets employees make their choices via the Web. Once
approved, the changes can be finalized in UltiPro and then transmitted
to benefits carriers electronically--dramatically reducing data entry
and errors.
"Prior to managing benefits enrollment through UltiPro, we used to
fax benefits updates to our benefit providers throughout the year, but
weeks or even months later, we would sometimes find out that the
insurance carrier never received the fax. Because we can now export a
file for providers with weekly modifications, we know when the file
was sent, what it contained, and that it was received. UltiPro lets us
know if there were any problems with the transmission, so our previous
difficulties are a thing of the past," said Liss. "This process has
made things easier, not just for HR but also for our employees because
there are now fewer snags."
Because Swedish Covenant cares about employee satisfaction, the
organization wanted its employees to be able to see the value of their
total compensation packages, which include both wages and benefits
paid for by the hospital. Swedish Covenant used UltiPro to create the
statements and made them available to employees last March.
"Our total compensation statements were a big success because our
associates had visual proof that they receive much more than a salary
from us," said Liss.
"We are pleased that UltiPro is giving Swedish Covenant's HR group
the time and technology to operate more strategically," said Greg
Swick, senior vice president of sales for Ultimate Software.
"Healthcare and other types of organizations that want to develop
strategic HR and talent management programs can turn to UltiPro to
help execute those initiatives."
