Select International and Guardian Industries Take On Turnover

Select International, a global provider of human resource assessment solutions, was selected by Guardian Industries to assess prospective entry-level production and maintenance employees at plants in DeWitt, Iowa and Carleton, Michigan.

Pittsburgh, January 12, 2007 – Select International, a global provider of human resource assessment solutions, was selected by Guardian Industries to assess prospective entry-level production and maintenance employees at plants in DeWitt, Iowa and Carleton, Michigan.  The primary objective is to improve new hire turnover rates.

Guardian is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of glass products.  Increased competition for prospective employees near Guardian’s facilities contributed to a 40-percent turnover rate for new employees in the first three months.  Guardian previously used a traditional paper application process, which required candidates to apply at each facility. Guardian wanted to widen the potential candidate recruiting area and make it easier to apply for open positions.  The company also wanted a tool to better assess candidates and ensure it was hiring people who would fit with Guardian’s environment and culture.

The EZ App® and Personal Preference Questionnaire (PPQ) enable Guardian to design an application system that pinpoints those qualities the company seeks in ideal candidates.  Applicants are required to answer a series of questions to determine if they are the right fit for the position.  The questions are formulated with multiple choice answers, and one of the options describes a characteristic of the working environment at Guardian.  Select has also worked proactively with Guardian to identify key issues leading to turnover.  Following that examination, Select provided customized training and interviewing guides to internal stakeholders at Guardian charged with screening candidates.
