Boston, MA - Secretary of Labor and Workforce Development Suzanne Bump today announced that she will be departing from her position effective tomorrow. Nancy Snyder, currently the President and CEO of Commonwealth Corporation, will step into the role as interim-Secretary.
Governor Patrick praised her for her efforts on behalf of workers and the unemployed in the Commonwealth. “Suzanne has been a unifying and passionate voice for Massachusetts workers and businesses at a time when we needed her advocacy the most,” said Governor Patrick. “She has overseen the successful implementation and execution of countless programs for the unemployed during these challenging economic times. She has done a remarkable job, and I thank her for her service and her friendship.”
Reflecting on her achievements, Bump highlighted activities to enhance responsiveness to worker and employer skill needs, strategic planning, and accountability within the workforce development system as well as steps taken to protect workers from exploitation and injury and to give organized labor a voice in government planning.
Governor Patrick has named Nancy Snyder, President and CEO of Commonwealth Corporation, to serve as interim-Secretary. Snyder joined the quasi-public organization in 2007, which provides strategic programming and services to support the workforce development system in the Commonwealth. Prior to that, Snyder worked at the Boston Private Industry Council for 12 years.
