Rochester Institute of Technology HRD Masters Students Gain Hands-On

Innovative HR Technology Course Uses Halogen Software to Bring HR Theories to Life
OTTAWA, ON – February 3, 2009 – Students in the Human Resource
Development Masters program at the Rochester Institute of Technology are
using Halogen Software this quarter as part of the graduate program's
innovative Leveraging Technology course. The software is being used to
provide students with hands-on experience with talent management
technology, and to put key concepts into context.  The course covers a wide
variety of technology relevant to HR professionals, with a specific focus on
talent management systems and collaboration/social software.

The hands-on application of talent management systems enables the
students to see how the automation of key functions such as appraisals,
compensation adjustments and succession planning relieves the
administrative burden typically faced by HR professionals and provides them
with actionable intelligence around employee performance, development and
talent. The practical application of the theories learned in the program
through Halogen's talent management systems brings concepts to life and
better equips HR professionals with the best practices and technology know-
how to be successful in their field.

"Today's and tomorrow's HR leaders need a firm grasp of technologies that
support and transform the HR function," said Steve Boese, Adjunct
Instructor, Rochester Institute of Technology. "The Halogen suite has been
incredibly easy to setup in our classroom environment and is proving
invaluable. When students want to apply concepts like goal alignment, pay-
for-performance, or talent pools, I can show them how to implement the
processes within the system. It makes for more a meaningful experience, and
better prepared HR professionals in the long term."

"As a professional already working in the HR field, this hands-on experience
with a tool that supports HR practices has been very valuable," said Teri
Odom, HR Manager at Reflexite, and graduate student in Human Resource
Development Masters program. "Putting theory to practice using the software
in a real-world scenario provides a more well-rounded approach to HR and a
strong understanding of how technology is a key enabler for our profession."
