SHELTON, CT, May 14, 2008—Asked to cite their top priority when finding eldercare, 39 percent of those caring for older loved ones said it is "finding high-quality care" -- the top reply to a recent poll by LifeCare®, Inc., provider of comprehensive specialty care services and a longtime leader in the work/life industry. The next two most popular responses were "finding care that can handle my loved one's special needs" (26 percent) and "finding affordable care" (21 percent).
Here are the full results of the poll, conducted throughout the month of April on LifeCare's private web site among employees of its 1,500 client organizations:
If you care for an older loved one, what is your top priority when finding care for her/him?
- Finding high-quality care – 39%
- Finding care that can handle my loved one's special needs – 26%
- Finding affordable care – 21%
- Finding care during the hours/days that I need – 4%
- Finding care that is conveniently located – 2%
Another eight percent cited a variety of other reasons, each representing less than one percent. These included: finding someone trustworthy; finding a live-in caregiver; transportation; and managing my own time to provide care.
Each month, LifeCare posts a poll on its private web site, asking individuals to share their thoughts and opinions on the latest issues and work/life trends. Past polls have addressed topics such as stress, health and wellness, aging, flexible work arrangements, and barriers to on-the-job productivity.
