Penn State Helps Make Online Education More Affordable for Military Spouses

The unsung heroes of the armed forces are often the spouses of military personnel who put their educational and professional aspirations on hold to accommodate the mobile and flexible lifestyle of a military family. Penn State World Campus is now partnering with the Department of Defense on the Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts (MyCAA) program to provide spouses with improved access to flexible online education.

University Park, PA (Vocus/PRWEB ) July 27, 2009 -- The unsung heroes of the armed forces are often the spouses of military personnel who put their educational and professional aspirations on hold to accommodate the mobile and flexible lifestyle of a military family.

Penn State World Campus is now partnering with the Department of Defense on the Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts (MyCAA) program to provide spouses with improved access to flexible online education. MyCAA offers $6,000 to military spouses who are interested in pursuing degree programs, licenses or credentials.

Craig Weidemann, vice president for Outreach at Penn State, said the financial assistance program helps the University reach out to the families of military personnel.

“The World Campus is committed to providing educational opportunities for military families,” Weidemann said. “Partnering on the MyCAA program with the Department of Defense will help extend accessibility to a Penn State education for military spouses, no matter where they’re stationed or where they will be stationed.”

The financial assistance program covers educational expenses such as post-secondary education and training, tuition, licensing, and credentialing fees.

The World Campus, a unit of Penn State Outreach and a member of Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges, specializes in providing online education for military personnel and their family members, who must relocate frequently.
