Many companies recognize the importance of parents spending time with a new baby to bond with their child. Through the Family & Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the federal government allows eligible employees to take up to 12 work weeks off after the birth or adoption of a child. According to a SimplyHired.com poll, 68% of job seekers believe men should have more paternity benefits at work, including paid paternity leave and flex schedules. Despite the opinions of workers, this is not a reality. In fact, according to the Society for Human Resource Management, only 15 percent of surveyed employers offered paid paternity leave in 2009.
 
It seems some employers are picking up on how important paternity leave benefits are to their employees, according to Simply Hired “paternity leave” trends which show an increase in jobs with by 39% since November 2008. In addition, general paternity benefits trends have increased 12% since that time.
