Oklahoma City, OK (Vocus/PRWEB ) January 22, 2010 -- Oklahoma City is the only place in the United States you can find three of the top 35 Best Places to Work according to Fortune Magazine. The magazine recently recognized three Oklahoma City companies on its "100 best companies to work for” list, further touting Oklahoma City's strong business environment. Devon Energy, Chesapeake Energy, and American Fidelity Assurance Co. were ranked No. 20, No. 34 and No. 35, respectively.
"Oklahoma City has always been committed to developing and maintaining a strong workforce, and this is further proof,” said Roy Williams, president and CEO of the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber. "These three companies go to great lengths every day to make sure their employees are given the tools to do their job well. Each of these companies is well-deserving of this designation.”
The rankings were based primarily on a random, anonymous employee survey conducted by the Great Place to Work Institute. But the survey also looked at available jobs, turnover, average salaries, employee perks and work-life balance.
Devon Energy, which ranked No. 20 on the list, was recognized for strong leadership in CEO Larry Nichols and President John Richels. Devon also has a low percentage of voluntary turnover and employees enjoy perks such as an onsite fitness center and a compressed work week.
Chesapeake Energy ranked No. 34 on the list, jumping nearly 40 spots from its previous ranking of No. 73. Chesapeake was noted for having a 401(k) match up to 15 percent of pay, regular stock grants, and medical and dental care offered on site. Employees also enjoy a subsidized gym membership.
American Fidelity Assurance Co. jumped 11 spots on the list, from No. 46 to No. 35. Twenty-five percent of its staff has been there more than 15 years. Work-life balance is stressed, with employees given the option of job-sharing, a compressed work week and/or telecommuting.
