Obama's Job Summit

Putting America Back to Work
This past Thursday, December 3rd, 2009, President Barack Obama held a job summit with the purpose of producing ideas to improve the job market and decrease unemployment. It's the first push in a bigger effort to rebuild America's strong workforce. A wide variety of labor, non-profit, economic, and business leaders totaling 130 individuals were invited to discuss the best ways in which to stimulate job creation. Among the ideas introduced were hiring incentives, implementing small firm credit boosts, and increasing exports. President Obama plans to present the administrations preferred solutions sometime early this week.

The job summit is an encouraging sign made stronger by Friday's news that unemployment is down from 10.2 to 10 percent. A figure that is not only lower than anticipated, but is indicative of the lowest monthly job loss since the beginning of the recession. The Dow Jones Industrial Average felt this news decidedly with an early trading surge of roughly 150 points. And even as trading evened out, the Dow closed strong, up 22.75 points.

The areas seeing the strongest employment rise include education, health care, government, and certain business services.

Economy Is Growing For The First Time In A Year
President Obama Plans to Use $200 Billion From the Troubled Asset Relief Program to Support Creating Jobs and Lower the 10% Unemployment Rate

The proposed plan delivered in a speech at the Brookings Institution by President Obama will include pumping more dollars into infrastructure projects and creating tax cuts for small businesses. It will also include rebates to home owners who make their homes more energy efficient.

The plan is sure to create many new government support jobs. New contracts and new opportunities will soon be up for bid which will mean a sudden increase in hiring in areas such as engineering, construction and health care.
