Military Veterans’ High Unemployment Rate Draws HR Concern

WHAT:  The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) will launch the “Military Veterans: Transitioning Skills to the New Economy” program during the SHRM 2010 Annual Conference & Exposition to address the recruitment and retention issues facing U.S. military veterans.

The program features two tracks — one for transitioning military personnel and one for HR professionals — as well as joint sessions of mutual interest. The event will focus on professional networking for the military-to-civilian job hunt, translating military and corporate workplace lingo, and adjusting to workplace cultural differences.


WHEN:  Saturday, June 26 -- 1 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.      

Sunday, June 27 -- 10 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.

WHERE:  San Diego Convention Center in California

WHO:  Military veterans and HR professionals will hear from executives in major corporations and leaders from the federal government.

-  Raymond Jefferson  –  Assistant Secretary for Veterans’ Employment and Training Service, U.S. Department of Labor

-  Phil Pope  –  Deputy Executive Director, Employer Outreach Programs at the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve
