Mercer Investment Consulting has expanded its Americas manager research team, adding three senior researchers, Andrew Toczycki as head of alternatives, Jonathan Miles, who will conduct hedge fund research, and Bryon J. Willy, who will focus on fixed-income strategy research. The team is responsible for researching more than 6,000 investment managers and their strategies, and these three appointments join an Americas group of some 45 individuals.
“We are very excited to welcome Andrew, Jonathan and Byron to Mercer’s dedicated manager research team,” said Jeff Gabrione, head of manager research for the Americas at Mercer IC. “This expansion of the group reflects growing interest among our clients in alternative investments, liability driven investing and more customized strategies generally.”
As head of alternatives, Mr. Toczycki will be responsible for primary research on hedge funds. He joins Mercer following a 17-year career with Allstate, where he most recently was responsible for evaluating and selecting hedge funds for the firm’s pension plans. Mr. Toczycki holds an MBA from the University of Chicago and a bachelor's degree from Northwestern. He is a CFA charterholder and holds the CAIA (Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst Association) designation.
Mr. Miles will conduct hedge fund research focusing on fixed income and multi-strategy vehicles. He joins Mercer IC from Precision Investment Technologies, where he consulted on the development of investment decision support software. Previously he analyzed and traded convertible bonds, and supported the merger arbitrage and capital structure arbitrage activities of Ritchie Capital, a multi-billion dollar hedge fund. Previously, he was with Mesirow, where he managed a fixed income portfolio. Mr. Miles has an MBA from Arizona State and an undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois and is a CFA charterholder.
Mr. Willy will focus on fixed-income strategy research, including liability-driven investments. He joins Mercer IC from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago, where he spent two years as the lead market-risk analyst. Previously Mr. Willy was vice president of capital markets finance/fixed income analytics at ABN AMRO North America, and worked as a financial analyst at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois. He holds an MBA with a concentration in finance from DePaul University and a bachelor’s degree in marketing and finance from Indiana University.
