GRAND HAVEN, Michigan, June 3, 2008—The Society for Technical Communication (STC) recently announced the winners of its international online communication competition. This competition recognizes the outstanding accomplishments and innovations of technical communicators who design and develop online information, selected from STC competitions held around the world. Media 1, a Grand Haven company, achieved top honors as Best of Show winner for their work on the Meijer Effective Selling (Mission Possible!) course.
Meijer’s Effective Selling (Mission Possible!) training course sets out to provide basic sales training for its employees. Retail salespeople are typically young, and Media 1 developed a course with a youthful approach to the subject matter. It employs a fun, game-like approach with active and vibrant language, animated voice-overs, and electronic interface simulations of a palm device and “secret agent watch” for navigation.
Media 1 CEO and founder, Chris Willis, accepted the award last Monday at the STC Summit in Philadelphia, PA. Willis is extremely proud of her team’s efforts and pleased with the recognition the company received. "Media 1 is comprised of collaborative teams. We build on each other’s strengths and are committed to excellence,” said Willis. “Our objective is always to create learning solutions that help our clients achieve their business goals.”
STC judges had this to say, “The content is excellent, using still photographs, engaging voice, and frequent on-screen checklists to present excellent content in a fast-paced, but absorbable manner. The most interesting component is the use of the chronometer to control the pace and content. Too often, excellent content is compromised by poor navigation, but the watch motif in this entry was superb. Always available, it allows the user to control the learning environment. From the very beginning Meijer’s Mission Possible! engages the user, imparts information effectively, and keeps the user’s interest. Mission Accomplished!”
Media 1, a West Michigan consultancy, helps large corporations prosper through engaging and effective learning and performance solutions, melding the best practices of multiple disciplines to shape a sensible learning methodology for the real world.
