May 8, 2009 – Oro Valley, AZ – Change management and performance expert Kevin Herring identifies in this month's Management In Real Life column the top five performance show stoppers frustrating most organizations.

The article is third in series on how to boost performance in a downturn. In it, Herring describes in all-too-familiar scenarios how show stoppers can shut down critical performance. He cites as examples a show stopper in one company resulting in 40% turnover in a mission critical department and another recounting an entire team of employees in a health care billing department that refused to maintain accurate billing practices.

Herring reports that even clients with seemingly few problems have at least a few performance show stoppers lurking in the shadows. "In almost every organization we can find bad policies, traditions, management practices and difficult employees that get ignored even though they have a huge impact on the organization," he says. "That's why they're usually the easiest and quickest things to fix in order to substantially improve team performance. And it's amazing how much the impact of these problems get undervalued."
