Shelton, CT (PRWEB) November 4, 2008 -- LifeCare®, Inc., longtime leader in the work/life industry, has received the Connecticut Breastfeeding Coalition's Breastfeeding-Friendly Business Award. LifeCare is one of only five Connecticut organizations to receive the Coalition's Gold Award, the highest recognition available.
To receive the Gold Award a business must offer its breastfeeding employees a wide range of facilities, resources and scheduling accommodations. For example, it must provide lactation consultant services and have a written breastfeeding policy in place. Among the facilities it must offer are a private room with a door that locks, a breastpump and a refrigerator. And it must offer employees flexible break times to express milk -- at least 15 to 20 minutes in the morning and again in the afternoon.
"We're delighted to be recognized by the Connecticut Breastfeeding Coalition for our support of breastfeeding working mothers," said LifeCare CEO, Peter G. Burki. "As one of the companies that helped to found the work/life movement more than 20 years ago, LifeCare has always acted as an advocate on behalf of working mothers. That's what led us to create our award-winning Mothers at WorkSM program -- the nation's most comprehensive workplace breastfeeding program bar none."
LifeCare's Mothers at Work program provides clients with 24/7 access to lactation consultants, the ability to purchase Medela breastpumps, a wealth of informational resources, and much more. The workplace breastfeeding CD-ROM contained in LifeCare's Mothers at Work Kit has won five awards since its creation in 2003.
The Connecticut Breastfeeding Coalition is an alliance of Connecticut-based health departments, the American Academy of Pediatrics, hospitals, community health centers, lactation consultants, nurses, nutritionists and others. The Coalition recognizes Connecticut-based breastfeeding-friendly businesses as part of its mission to improve Connecticut's health by working collaboratively to protect, promote, and support breastfeeding.
