Money is the top source of stress for eight out of 10 Americans, according to the American Psychological Association’s 2008 Stress in America survey.
Arlington, VA, June 20, 2009 — Money is the top source of stress for eight out of 10 Americans, according to the American Psychological Association’s 2008 Stress in America survey. With the addition of the falling housing market, increasing consumer debt, and job security, Americans are feeling stress, anxiety, and depression about their financial future.
Through a new program by Community Health Charities, Health Matters at Work, some of the nation’s most respected health charities in the areas of mental health and alcohol and drug addiction are working together to reach out to Americans with the support of their organizations during these challenging times.
Beginning June 10, 2009, the Health Matters at Work program will feature a 4-part video podcast series, over the next eight weeks, inviting Americans to learn more about managing addiction, depression, and stress.
“Mental health is fundamental to health in everyway. Increased levels of stress, depression, and anxiety all raise the risk of cardiovascular disease,” said David Shern, PhD, President & CEO of Mental Health America.
“Working together, we can place the tools and resources that people need to assess, monitor and manage their mental health at their finger tips,” said Peter Ashenden, President and CEO, Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance.
“And while all of our organizations offer online resources and tools, the message we hope people hear is that together we offer a broad network of support to people in communities across America, and we are all here for people that need our help,” said Robert Lindsey, M.Ed., CEAP, National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence.
Twenty-six video podcasts have been developed with the support of numerous Community Health Charities members, including American Lung Association, Cancer Research Institute, Autism Speaks, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and many other leading charitable organizations.
