Jeff Gabrione, 38, has been appointed to head Americas manager research at Mercer Investment Consulting, it was announced today by Andy Barber, global head of manager research at Mercer Investment Consulting. Mr. Gabrione is based in Chicago.
Mr. Gabrione joined Mercer in 2003 as a senior research consultant within the manager research division of Mercer Investment Consulting in Chicago. In this capacity, he has had global responsibility for primary research on a broad range of investment managers across various investment strategies. Additionally, he has been responsible for research on alternative investment strategies, including hedge funds.
“Jeff has established a highly regarded reputation as he has taken responsibility for our research on alternative investment strategies, an area of expertise especially valued by our clients,” said Rich Nuzum, Americas Business Leader for Mercer Investment Consulting. “Many of our institutional clients are increasing their allocations to hedge funds and other alternatives to diversify their sources of return and thereby reduce risk. They are actively seeking Mercer Investment Consulting’s insights and recommendations in these areas, and Jeff’s work has been critical to helping us meet that demand.”

Prior to joining Mercer, Mr. Gabrione conducted investment manager research for Morgan Stanley’s Private Wealth Management Group, from 2001 to 2003. Previously, for five years he was a data manager at Morningstar, and from 1992 to 1996 he was fixed income credit analyst with John Nuveen & Co. He began his career in the investment industry in 1990 with the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.
Mr. Gabrione earned a BA degree with honors from the University of Chicago, concentrating in economics. He is a CFA charterholdeer and a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of Chicago.
