Cambridge, MA (PRWEB) June 15, 2007 -- A winner of the Best Bosses in America 2007 award and a leading advocate for women in leadership issues — Linda Dunkel, President and CEO of Interaction Associates — is challenging women leaders to boldly reinterpret and challenge traditional definitions of leadership.
Dunkel is issuing the challenge in a speech in at the national convention of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) in Phoenix Arizona on July 2, 2007.
"Women need to change the game board and approach leadership in a whole new way," according to Dunkel. "Without a doubt, there are too few women in key leadership roles in many companies. And yet, women’s tendency to prefer collaboration over competition uniquely qualifies them to transform the workplace through authentic leadership driven by a vision," said Dunkel.
Dunkel proposes a bold reinterpretation of leadership that focuses on shifting three key elements to lead radical change in the workplace: heart set, mindset, and skill set. Dunkel proposes women embrace risk and design leadership structures consistent with their own values and purpose. She advises women to avoid playing victim to external forces, to select priorities consciously, and to take responsibility for the trade-offs that go with those priorities.
"Work environments often place more value on the leadership qualities typically attributed to men than on those associated with women," said Dunkel. "By connecting and harnessing these three elements, and fostering a culture of collaboration, women leaders can inspire others to a high degree of loyalty and excellent job performance." Dunkel’s point of view is influenced by her experience in senior level positions in two start-up companies and as vice-president of a Fortune 100 company, as well as her years consulting with CEOs and their senior teams in many different industries.
Linda Dunkel’s presentation to the AAUW — titled Changing the Game Board for Women Leaders: From Vision to Action — is on July 2, 20007 at 2:15PM. More information on the AAUW’s national convention is here.
