Surviving the Current Economy

Tips for Employers
It’s a scary time for a lot of businesses.  Every day we’re inundated by new headlines proclaiming lower sales, higher unemployment, and greater economic downturn.  All is not lost though.  There are ways to not only stabilize your company, but also grow it into a powerhouse!

Employers…

Review your fiscal budget.  Are all line items necessary to produce your product or service appropriately?  Which areas can be trimmed or monies shifted to more efficiently benefit the organization overall?

Review vendor and service contracts.  Comparison-shop your long distance service, trash collection, insurance coverage, etc.  This is a practice often overlooked and a potential gold mine of savings.

Empower employees to market the organization.  Everyone talks about his or her job.  Provide your employees with services information and incentives to promote your company “after hours”.

Low cost incentives carry a huge (personal wellbeing) impact.  Brainstorm with your employees.  What perks will help them be more productive?  Potential incentives include a longer lunch hour several times a month, relocation of work stations or mobile work stations, potluck lunches with emphasis on all things non-work related, a “quiet area” for refocusing, or a “book” exchange area (share used books, magazines, DVD’s…).

Brainstorm, brainstorm, brainstorm.  Everyone has an opinion or an idea.  Initiate informal discussion sessions with emphasis on “No idea is a bad idea”.  Even out of what appear to be the silliest of notions, will come a seed of inspiration for an idea, program, or product that will flourish.
