Human Resources: HR in the Year of the Rat

As we ended 2007, we were told that hiring and economic pressures were going into a nosedive. The conditions would have an across-the-board effect on global economy and we should prepare ourselves for a very lean 2008. A colleague asked me what the forecasts means to HR in 2008. As we look at the natural pressures taking place and the Chinese Year of the Rat, we see that 2008 actually means tremendous pressure on HR to expand its breadth of services to the enterprise. Rather than recession and contraction, HR will see its role in the enterprise growing at a tremendous rate.
