Hire A Hero Fundraiser Gives Veterans a Chance at a Good Job

When men and women join the United States Armed Forces, they make a promise.
Carlsbad, CA – When men and women join the United States Armed Forces, they make a promise. That promise is to serve the American people by protecting and defending their freedom. Unfortunately, when many of these men and women return home and transition out of the military, they are given nothing in return. Many of them face unemployment and struggle to support themselves and their families.

The Armed Forces Support Foundation's Holiday Fundraiser will help to jump-start the careers of Veterans, Guard members, Reservists and their families with job searching assistance provided by the Foundation's Hire A Hero program. Those who want to support this initiative can make tax deductible donations to the program. All donations help keep the program running and free for the military community as well as employers to use.

"It goes without saying that the men and women in our armed forces deserve the gratitude of the American people. What they have earned upon transitioning into the civilian sector is an opportunity to access the the best jobs in our communities on an equal footing with those who have not served. It provides a tangible testimony to the value of military experience, education and training and the values military service instills in its members. It is heartbreaking that it is not happening today. It is simply a national disgrace that the US Department of Labor consistently reports that the unemployment rate of veterans aged 22-24 is twice and on some occasions triple the rate for non veterans,” says Armed Forces Support Foundation Chairman of the Board Major General Matthew Caulfield (USMC Ret.). "We are committed and believe every American has a responsibility to turn that situation around. We can do so by expressing our gratitude to the men and women of our armed forces in a meaningful way that helps them and our country....making sure service to our nation counts in the workplace.”

More than 250,000 people transition out of the military every year. In addition to those transitioning, there are 1.3 million National Guard and Reserve members and 25 million veterans. (Source: Profile of the Military Community, Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense)
