HARVARD BUSINESS SCHOOL PUBLISHING FORMALIZES GOVERNMENT SOLUTIONS

New Government Solutions Address Government Human Capital Challenges

WASHINGTON, D.C. - July 10, 2006 - Harvard Business School Publishing,
the premier source for management practices, programs and content, today
announced availability of Leadership Transitions in Government. The
online program, developed for government and regulatory leaders
advancing into new roles, was designed in collaboration with Michael
Watkins, today's foremost expert on transitional leadership. His book
titled "The First 90 Days in Government" was released by Harvard
Business School Press this week.
[The announcement was made from the Excellence in Government
conference].

Leadership Transitions in Government is an online program that gives
leaders an interactive means to learn and apply the principles from "The
First 90 Days in Government." The program offers a systematic approach
to analyzing new situations and leveraging unique strengths and
professional histories to excel in their new roles. It also includes a
roadmap to help new government leaders at all levels accelerate their
career transitions by overcoming transition challenges, ranging from
clarifying expectations to defining goals to building a team to managing
personal stress.

In his book, Watkins, author of numerous books, including the
best-seller "The First 90 Days," applies his proven leadership
transition framework to the public sector, addressing the crucial
differences between the private and public sectors that go to the heart
of how success and failure are defined, measured, and rewarded or
penalized.

Additional program content and examples are based on real agency issues
and were developed through Harvard Business School Publishing's current
work with government agencies. Taking into account the unique dynamics
that impact government sector leaders, Leadership Transitions in
Government provides insights and tools on motivating teams, coalition
building, managing performance and reassignments - all geared to the
environment that government leaders face.
