Go Green with SaaS to Slash Spending

SaaS.com Offering Environmentally Friendly Solutions
BRANCHBURG, N.J. – March 10, 2009  – WebApps, Inc. a.k.a. SaaS.com
(www.SaaS.com), a leading provider of Software as a Service (SaaS) with a
major push in Workforce Management Solutions, provides the means with
which its channel partners can make a positive impact on the environment
and their bank accounts. On-premise applications can put a strain on the
environment and an organization's budget because of associated resources,
whereas SaaS-based solutions reduce and in some cases eliminate the need
for those resources.

SaaS providers can replace an organization's server storage needs by hosting
the solutions themselves.  In a recent article entitled, "Go SaaS, Go Green,"
author Curt Finch explained, "Through SaaS, an equivalent server can sit in
the data center of the service provider and serve multiple companies
worldwide." The Energy Information Association reports that the average cost
for electricity in 2008 was 10.77 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWH). Considering
it takes .45 kWH to power a 450 watt server, the possibility exists to save
over four hundred dollars on each server per year. This does not, however,
include the cost associated with cooling servers. According to an article
entitled, "The X Factor: How Many Servers, How Much Juice, How Much
Money?" written by Timothy Morgan, at least the same amount of electricity
is used to cool servers as is used to run the actual server.

Essentially, no server needs to be purchased by an organization aside from
the provider when employing a SaaS-based solution, thus reducing the
amount of landfill waste when servers become dated. The National
Geographic also reports that workspaces alone contain lead, pvc, retardants,
chromium, mercury, beryllium and cadmium, all which can have extremely
harmful effects on the human body. Being made with similar parts, old
outdated servers, become an environmental hazard. Reducing waste even
more, since SaaS-based solutions are acquired via the web, there is no
packaging involved as is required with software on discs.

With SaaS-based solutions, workforces are afforded the opportunity to
telecommute. In this situation, not only does telecommuting save on fossil
fuels, but employees can also use their home laptop or desktop, thus
eliminating in-house costs associated with keeping office workspaces
running.
