Published annually for the past fifteen years, the Executive Job Market Intelligence report features complete analysis of key trends and developments in the executive employment market and executive search industry. This year’s report, based on simultaneous national surveys of 2,149 executives and 378 search firms and corporate recruiters, reveals that a tight employment market is generating more opportunities, bigger paychecks, and some unique challenges for the market’s most active participants.
“Three consecutive years of double-digit growth in search assignments has created a greater sense of urgency among both executives and corporations,â?? says Dave Opton, CEO and Founder of ExecuNet. “Retention plans are clearly going to be put to the test in 2007, however, for many companies it may be a case of too little, too late.â??
According to the report, 67 percent of executives believe there is a shortage of qualified talent in the market – up from 53 percent just one year ago, and 67 percent of search firms and 62 percent of corporate recruiters agree. Despite this shared sentiment, just one in three executives (33 percent) believes their company is working harder today to retain top talent than one year ago, and only one in two (51 percent) Human Resource executives believes their company’s current leadership team will still be in place in one year.
“The erosion of loyalty between companies and executives has fundamentally changed the workplace,â?? says Mark Anderson, President of ExecuNet. “At 3.4 years, the average executive tenure is shorter than a single Presidential term. In this type of an environment, both executives and companies pay a steep price for complacency.â??
