[CINCINNATI, OH – MAY 11, 2010] Employers Resource Association (ERA,) a non-profit company specializing in human resources consulting, training, development, legal updates, news and information, has presented results from its survey on the average starting salaries for college graduates. The survey is part of ERA’s 2010 Survey Series for its nearly 1,400 members in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana.
According to the survey of more than 300 companies throughout the region, the careers with the highest starting salaries for graduates earning a bachelor’s degree included Chemical Engineering ($54,333 per year), Public Relations ($54,000) and Software Engineering ($53,964). For graduates earning a Master’s degree, the most lucrative field was Software Engineering at more than $85,000 per year, followed by Economics & Finance ($71,574) and Electrical Engineering ($66,550).
The lowest starting salaries for graduates with bachelor’s degrees were in the Humanities and Social Services disciplines, including the fields of Criminal Justice, English and Psychology.
“Our members really value the starting salaries survey because it gives them some real world context about how economic and market conditions are affecting new employee salaries,” explained Douglas Matthews, PHR, Survey Manager for Employers Resource Association. “The Class of 2010 is getting ready to hit the workforce and, while economic recovery is continuing at a very slow pace, companies are looking for every insight to help them make smart staffing decisions.”
In addition to its Starting Salary Survey, ERA conducts dozens of other surveys as part of its annual Survey Series, including Wage & Salary Surveys, HR Policies & Practices Survey and National Surveys on executive compensation, employee benefits and pay trends. Most survey reports are available free to member participants and survey reports are available for purchase for non-participants.
