Pontiac, Michigan, January 3, 2006 - As the nation's leading provider of specialized benefits and learning services programs, Edcor is pleased to announce the implementation of a new policy safeguarding Clients' Social Security numbers. The new policy is in accordance with all relevant provisions outlined by Michigan´s Social Security Number Privacy Act, a leading indicator of changes occurring nationally.
The Act prohibits Michigan employers from publicly displaying or visibly printing, using or transmitting more than four sequential digits of one´s Social Security number. Furthermore, Social Security numbers may no longer be used for identification, as has been common for some health insurance organizations and financial or educational institutions.
Edcor´s new privacy policy ensures the confidentiality of Client and employee Social Security numbers; prohibits the unlawful disclosure of Social Security numbers; limits access to information or documents containing Social Security numbers; establishes document destruction protocol; and requires those who violate the policy to be penalized. These leading-edge provisions demonstrate the company´s continued commitment to combating identity theft and ensuring Client and employee security.
"Even before the State began to make changes, Edcor has been proactively enhancing its procedures," said Steven J. Corso, chief executive officer of Edcor. "The security of Client and employee data, and their confidentiality, are of the utmost importance at Edcor. This is the latest example of Edcor´s commitment to surpassing industry standards in the area of security, and sustaining its leadership in this arena."
