In an interview last week, Brian McElwee, President of easyBackgrounds, said "This makes life a lot easier for employers that include a drug test in their screening program. Not only is it paperless, but it puts time back in their day. We manage the entire process from the moment the order is placed, and work directly with the applicant. A collection site is located, they're scheduled and in most cases we have results back to our client the next day."
easyScreen can be used to order 5 and 10 panel lab-based drug tests, as well as custom screens. Employers regulated by the DOT still need to use the paper chain of custody forms. "Our DOT clients don't have this option yet, but we're hopeful their regulations will catch up with technology" McElwee said, adding "the paper forms are still available if a client wants to continue managing their program that way - but easyScreen really takes the headaches away from this process, especially for employers that hire from outside their local area." With the easyScreen service, a client places their order through an online account with easyBackgrounds, either as a single item or as part of a package that includes a background check. The drug test is scheduled and a secure email is sent to the applicant with information to be taken to a nearby collection site. Once the sample has been tested and reviewed by a Medical Review Officer, usually within 24 hours, results are delivered to the client's account. Applicant questions and communications are handled directly by easyBackgrounds, minimizing the employer's time commitment and keeping turnaround times down.
"This is a great addition for us and our clients because it really brings the drug screening process in line with our background checks," McElwee said. "For years our clients have been able to log into their account, order a background check and get their reports - all electronically. The drug tests could be ordered online, but clients still had to get an original chain of custody form to the candidate - sometimes by overnight delivery. The applicant would take the form to the collection site where one sheet would be torn off and sent with the sample, one sheet would go to the client, one would go to the applicant …. it just seemed so archaic. easyScreen is the solution."
