September 12, 2007…Dr. Carolyn Kay Brancato, Director of The Conference Board Governance Center and Directors’ Institute, has been named to the Directorship 100, a list of the most influential individuals in corporate governance.
Published by Directorship magazine in its September issue, the list recognizes the people and institutions that are shaping agendas in boardrooms across America.
“Carolyn Brancato’s ideas and contributions have added significantly to the corporate governance debate both at the policy level and in the boardroom itself,” says Jeffrey M. Cunningham, CEO and Chairman of Directorship. “Her work as founder and director of The Conference Board Governance Center continues to serve as a valued source of information for those of us who are committed to the improvement of our good corporate-governance practices.”
The selection process was completed by a distinguished board of advisers, reader surveys, and the editors of Directorship.
“Carolyn Brancato’s stewardship of corporate governance work at The Conference Board for nearly 15 years has brought our organization to the forefront of research in this critical area,” says Jon Spector, President and CEO of The Conference Board. “We are proud that she has chosen to do her important research with us and we congratulate her wholeheartedly for this honor which she richly deserves.”
Dr. Brancato has developed numerous corporate governance reports including the recent Corporate Governance Handbook 2007: Legal Standards and Board Practices and the two-decade long series from The Conference Board on institutional investor equity ownership in US corporations, which is used by regulators and the private sector. She also served as director of The Conference Board Commission on Public Trust and Private Enterprise. Dr. Brancato has written two major books on the subject of corporate governance, including Institutional Investors and Corporate Governance: Best Practices for Creating Corporate Value.
She also developed the Directors’ Institute Roundtable Sessions, which allow for a mixture of seasoned directors from various major companies to interact and engage on evolving governance issues. These sessions sharpen “red flag” oversight skills and build knowledge through candid discussion. The next sessions are: Nov. 8-9, 2007 (New York, NY); March 6, 2008 (Chicago); and June 5-6, 2008 (New York, NY). Contact: 212-339-0392.
