At the DMAA-NAM Integrated Care Summit, two leaders in disease management, industry and health care will host a Sept. 17 conference call to address the leading cause of death in America’s work force: preventable chronic disease.

Chronic diseases, such as diabetes and heart disease, take a devastating toll on America’s health:

Chronic diseases account for seven out of every 10 deaths in the United States, killing more than 1.7 million Americans every year.
They are the primary driver of health care costs, accounting for more than 75 percent of the $2 trillion spent annually on health care in the United States.
30 percent of the increase in health spending since 1987 is due to a doubling of the obesity rate during that time
 
An expert panel comprising John Engler of the National Association of Manufacturers and Tracey Moorhead of the Disease Management Association of America will discuss best practices for confronting chronic disease in the workplace.
