With the job market constantly changing, it can be difficult for job seekers to know where the hottest opportunities for employment are. The newly released book Today's Hot Job Targets quickly tells readers which cities are sizzling with employment growth and offering the best job opportunities, based on the latest information from the Department of Labor.
Indianapolis, Ind. (PRWEB) July 11, 2007 -- Job seekers may be surprised to learn which areas of the United States are booming with job opportunities.
In their new book, Today's Hot Job Targets, career experts Michael Farr and Laurence Shatkin, Ph.D., identify which areas of the nation are sizzling with employment growth based on information from the U.S. Department of Labor.
"We looked at the statistics for all the metropolitan areas to see which gained the biggest percentages of wage-earning workers in recent years," say Farr and Shatkin.
Farr and Shatkin narrowed their list of metropolitan areas with rapid workforce growth and low unemployment to the following top 10 areas:
1. Cape Coral--Fort Myers, FL
2. Orlando--Kissimmee, FL
3. Medford, OR
4. Lakeland, FL
5. Sheboygan, WI
6. Savannah, GA
7. Phoenix--Mesa--Scottsdale, AZ
8. St. Cloud, MN
9. La Crosse, WI-MN
10. Bellingham, WA
"We did not look at growth of the total population, which includes children, retirees and others who are not working. And we didn't look at the growth of self-employed workers. We also exclude any metropolitan area with more than 6.5 percent unemployment."
Farr and Shatkin acknowledge this information could be useful for job seekers interested in relocating in order to advance their career. Yet, they remind that even though these areas are swelling with employment, job seekers should be cautious that relocating to another city or state may be putting themselves at a disadvantage in their job market.
"In the location where you now live, you probably have a better network of contacts, a resume that is more effective with employers, and a better familiarity with the culture than you would have in a distant location. Nevertheless, depending on your career goal and where you live now, your best chances of finding work may be in another city or town."
