CCA Names New Vice President of Operations

Ron Thompson, long-time corrections executive, appointed to new CCA post

Nashville, TN (Vocus/PRWEB ) January 15, 2010 -- CCA has named Ron Thompson as vice president, Operations, for its Business Unit I. In his role, Thompson will oversee facility operations for 19 CCA facilities in nine states, effective January 23, 2010.

Thompson, a long-time corrections professional, replaces Brian Collins, who was named CCA executive vice president and chief human resources officer in September 2009. Thompson previously served as managing director, Operations, where he oversaw 10 CCA facilities, primarily those with federal inmate populations.

“Mr. Thompson’s respected experience will contribute to the continued strength of CCA’s high-quality operations,” said Rick Seiter, CCA executive vice president and chief corrections officer. “His tenure in public corrections brings valuable insights to our correctional partnerships, as we work to bring the innovation of business with the consistent oversight of our federal, state and county government partners.”

Thompson joined CCA in 2005 after retiring from a 30-year career with the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP). He joined the BOP in 1974 as a correctional officer and served as case manager, case management specialist, executive assistant, designations administrator, assistant administrator (Correctional Programs), correctional programs administrator and director (Staff Training Academy). While with the BOP, Thompson also served as warden of two facilities, senior deputy regional director (South Central Region), assistant director (Human Resources Management Division) and regional director (South Region), covering five states.

Thompson is also known for his role in high-profile situations, such as the execution of Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh. As officer in charge for victims, he coordinated viewing of the execution for 300 victims’ families.

In 2002, Thompson received the Presidential Rank Award of Meritorious Service. Recipients of this award, according to The U.S. Office of Personnel Management, “have a consistent record of integrity, industry and commitment to public service.”

“Ron has made significant contributions to CCA,” said Damon Hininger, CCA president and CEO. “He is a strong leader who believes in mentoring fellow professionals and has gained great respect from his peers within and outside of CCA.”

Ron holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Malone College in Canton, Ohio, a master’s degree in administration of justice from Southern Illinois University and a certificate in public administration from the University of Southern California.
