CCA Named among the Nation’s “Top Military-Friendly Employers”

Corrections company jumps 24 places to 23rd spot in G.I. Jobs yearly ranking of 100 companies
Nashville, Tenn. (Vocus/PRWEB ) November 25, 2009 -- CCA continues to be one of the best companies in the nation for military veterans to embark on new civilian careers. That’s according to G.I. Jobs Magazine, which ranked CCA among the country’s “Top 100 Military-Friendly Employers” for 2009.

The annual, high-profile G.I. Jobs list “showcases the top two percent of veteran-friendly companies in the United States.” CCA – which partners with federal, state and county agencies to design, build and manage correctional facilities – climbed an impressive 24 slots in this year’s list, from 47th place in 2008 to 23rd place in 2009.

“These are companies that generate at least $500 million in annual revenue – more than 5,000 are eligible – and have shown, through strong military recruiting practices, internal veterans’ programs, a high percentage of hiring veterans and Guard/Reserve policies, that they prize prior military experience,” said Rich McCormack, publisher of G.I. Jobs.

Nearly 10 percent of CCA’s national workforce of 17,500 is veteran-based. The company, which operates prisons, jails and detention centers in partnership with government, employs veterans in administration, education, management, security, social services and many other areas.

“For quite some time, we’ve understood and valued the skills, knowledge and drive that veterans bring to our company,” said Brian Collins, CCA executive vice president and chief human resources officer. “We are fond of saying that a CCA facility is like a small town, in terms of the scope and diversity of services provided each day. That means military veterans can be counselors, correctional officers, doctors, nurses, managers, teachers, trainers and much more at our facilities.”

According to McCormack, G.I. Jobs looks broadly and critically at a company’s culture and recruitment efforts and results when it comes to identifying which ones deserve to claim the top slots.

“I think CCA is a great company and obviously a great fit for military. Many military personnel transition out of the Service with incredible security skills,” McCormack said. “CCA is certainly doing its part to create solid opportunities for the estimated 400,000 veterans transitioning from Service each year.”
