businessThink Author Steve Smith to Speak at Human Capital Institute's National Summit Conference

"Are you a culture of job-holders or difference-makers?"

Washington, D.C. - January 10, 2006 - The Human Capital Institute (HCI), a professional association and educator in talent management strategies, announced today that Steve Smith, an expert in workplace entrepreneurship and co-author of the internationally acclaimed book "businessThink," will speak at HCI's inaugural National Human Capital Summit, to be held in Chicago April 6-7.

Day one of the Summit, in a session focused on leadership, Smith poses the question, "Are you a culture of job-holders or difference-makers?" The ensuing discussion led by Smith will explore the rules difference-makers live by, with the intent of helping organizations build teams that have an entrepreneurial view of business.

"The typical company is comprised largely of job-holders--average people who get average results. For a company to propel past average and achieve exceptional results, it must tap into those individuals who have a different outlook and approach to work," said Allan Schweyer, HCI's Executive Director. "Steve Smith understands true organizational value comes from the difference-makers, that it is these individuals who move a company forward."

Many of the ideas discussed at this session were pioneered by Steve Smith and co-authors Dave Marcum and Mahan Khalsa in "businessThink", a book that has been translated into 18 languages and distributed in 40 countries. Hailed by critics and colleagues alike, "businessThink" has received praise from Stephen Covey, Ram Charan, and Warren Bennis, among others. The book has been called "a gem" by Tom Peters.

Steve Smith is a founding partner of Utah-based consulting firm Veracity LC, a licensee of FranklinCovey. The firm's mission is to be a catalyst for the fusion of entrepreneurial thinking and business discipline.

As a speaker and a consultant, Smith has worked with a wide range of global clients, including Nike, Hard Rock Café, American Power Conversion, ADP, CNN/Turner Networks, Microsoft, and Roche Diagnostics.

Steve Smith's work has been featured by CBS MarketWatch, the San Francisco Chronicle, The Dallas Morning News, The Arizona Republic, Canada AM, and others.
