Bensinger, DuPont & Associates (BDA), a national Employee Assistance Program and helpline organization, has seen a 74% increase in the number of calls to its EAP services in the first six months of 2007 versus the same time period in 2006.
“EAPs and helplines offer a first line of defense for employees experiencing emotional issues,” says August Stieber, National Sales Director of Bensinger, DuPont & Associates. “Given the expanding scope of EAP services coupled with an increase in employees’ willingness to reach out, it follows that calls to our helpline have surged.”
Key findings of BDA’s research include:
5% increase in the number of female callers
4% increase in the number of mental health calls
2% increase in the number of callers requesting legal services
The top four reasons individuals called the BDA helpline in 2007 were:
36% of the callers requested assistance with mental health issues
19% of the callers requested assistance with legal issues
10% of the callers requested assistance with couple issues
8% of the callers requested assistance with family issues
“Problems in our workplace and family can affect every aspect of our life --- and EAPs and helplines are a significant support for employers, employees and their family members,” says August Stieber.
EAPs provide professional services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Getting help early before an issue develops into a long-term problem is an important key to the success of these services.
Bensinger DuPont & Associates is a privately owned professional services company that is dedicated to promoting healthy outcomes for employees, the workplace, individuals and their families through a wide range of consultation, training and counseling services.
