Oakbrook Terrace, Ill., January 15, 2008 - The CompTIA Educational Foundation announced today that its Second Annual Creating Futures Charity Golf Classic will be held Monday, August 4, in Orlando, Fla.
Falcon’s Fire Golf Club, one of Orlando’s premier public golf courses, will host the Creating Futures Charity Golf Classic.
Proceeds from the event will benefit Creating Futures, an initiative of the CompTIA Educational Foundation that provides opportunities to individuals who have historically been under-represented in the information technology (IT) industry workforce, including veterans transitioning out of the military; individuals with disabilities; at-risk youth; and dislocated workers. Creating Futures works with employers to identify their hiring needs, then tailors education and training programs to help individuals obtain the skills employers are looking for.
The Creating Futures Charity Golf Classic will be held in conjunction with Breakaway, the annual conference for CompTIA members. Breakaway 2008, the IT industry’s premier education and networking event, is set for August 5-7 at the Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center in Orlando.
“The Creating Futures Charity Golf Classic is a great way for Breakaway attendees to get an early start on networking with their industry colleagues, while at the same time demonstrating their support for a program that’s helping our industry,” said John Venator, president and chief executive officer, CompTIA.
Falcon’s Fire is an 18-hole, par 72 championship golf course designed by world-renowned golf course architect Rees Jones. It has been awarded four stars by Golf Digest Magazine in their annual “Places to Play” publication.
“Falcon’s Fire is one of the most talked about ‘must play’ public golf facilities in the greater Orlando area; and as an avid golfer I am looking forward to playing this challenging course,” said Gary Gillam, vice president, channel operations, Xerox North America, and chairman of the Creating Futures Leadership Council. “Participants in the Creating Futures Charity Golf Classic are certain to enjoy a memorable golf experience.”
