WASHINGTON, D.C./August 24, 2007 — The National Council on Aging (NCOA) recognized AgeOptions, the Area Agency on Aging of Suburban Cook County, Ill., for its benefits outreach efforts to low-income seniors at a ceremony during the agency’s board meeting on August 23.
Jonathan Lavin, president of AgeOptions, received the award on behalf of the agency. Lavin demonstrated enthusiastic and effective leadership on the My Medicare Matters Project, Access to Benefits Coalition, BenefitsCheckUp and other campaigns focused on increasing access to benefits for older Americans. The Suburban Cook County AAA has used BenefitsCheckUp, NCOA’s web-based service, to find over 75 million dollars in benefits for seniors with limited incomes.
James Firman, president and CEO of the NCOA, presented the award in a brief ceremony. “Jonathan and his agency have consistently gone the extra mile for seniors in need,” Firman said. “Under his leadership, the older Americans of Suburban Cook County have gained a better quality of life.”
“It’s been our privilege to serve seniors in our area,” said Lavin. “BenefitsCheckUp has really helped us help those in need.”
