CHELMSFORD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 8, 2005-- With more than 6,000 employees in more than 32 departments, the City of El Paso, Texas, was no longer able to effectively manage its workforce with manual processes. Uniform police, fire, and civilian employees had different leave policies, which became complex to track. To solve these issues and to ensure that it was able to adhere to its zero overtime policy, the City of El Paso implemented the Workforce Central(R) suite from Kronos(R) Incorporated (Nasdaq: KRON).
With the use of Kronos solutions, the City of El Paso now has access to real-time labor information. This information allows the City to proactively manage its employees in instances such as overtime. For example, if an employee is reaching overtime, a manager has access to this information and is able to modify the schedule to ensure that employees stay within their allotted hours. Also, managers are able to track attendance metrics such as tardiness and absences so occurrences can be addressed before they become issues. The new solutions also help the City adhere to Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) regulations.
"Access to accurate employee data is critical for us to effectively run our City," said Linda Thomas, assistant human resources director at the City of El Paso. "We pride ourselves on being a great place to work. Therefore, we are leveraging Kronos to ensure that we are able to manage our employees with the utmost accuracy."
Streamlining the payroll process
The City of El Paso brought part-time and full-time employees in all departments including police, fire, transportation, and waste management live on Workforce Central in a very aggressive timeframe. By having all departments on one system, the City has eliminated all routine paper-based payroll processes. Now, the organization benefits from a streamlined payroll process that allows it to reduce errors, which already has led to increased employee satisfaction. In addition, the City has re-deployed a number of its payroll staff to other positions that needed to be filled.
"Using the most advanced suite of solutions available in Workforce Central, the City of El Paso has been able to eliminate manual payroll processes, adhere to its zero overtime policy, and re-deploy staff to other areas within the City in need of help," said Dave Roth, director of industry marketing at Kronos. "Above all, they have achieved the goal that many cities are striving toward. They now run like a business and are able to provide taxpayers with the service they desire rather than performing administrative tasks."
