METLIFE EMPLOYEE BENEFITS PORTAL REACHES MILESTONE

NEARLY DOUBLES ONLINE USER REGISTRATION IN ONE YEAR
New York, NY, May 24, 2005 – MetLife, one of the largest providers of non-medical group benefits, announced today that its online employee benefits portal, MyBenefits, has reached more than 1 million registered users. This milestone is a reflection of the increasing popularity of online self-service for employee benefits.

According to MetLife’s 2004 Employee Benefits Trend Study, 47% of U.S. employers offer benefits Web sites. By early 2006, 36% of companies not currently offering online benefits enrollment plan to do so and among companies with more than 1,000 employees, the percentage jumps to 50%.

“We believe that at the current rate, most benefits transactions will be managed electronically within the next few years,” said Sachin Shah, vice president, MetLife Workplace Solutions. “Self-service benefits portals offer value to both employers and their employees – e-platforms help reduce human resource costs while providing employees with a wide selection of benefits options, customized to their preferences and accessible at the click of a mouse. With employee online self-service, there are fewer calls made to the employer-freeing up the benefits managers’ time so that they can focus on more strategic issues.”

Through MyBenefits, employees can get answers to their most common questions, learn about their plans and coverage specifics, obtain price quotes for certain products, and enroll in benefits including: dental benefits, critical illness insurance, long-term care, life insurance, auto & home insurance, disability insurance, and banking services. Users can also check their claim status for certain products, locate a dentist who participates in MetLife Preferred Dentist Program, or learn about retirement savings options. A popular feature is service email, like eAlerts that notify employees of claim updates (if subscribed).

Access to MyBenefits is available around the clock, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, from work or home, at http://metlife.com/mybenefits. Customer satisfaction surveys administered by MetLife reflect the quality of the resource - employee satisfaction with MyBenefits exceeds 93%.

“Employees interact with MetLife through MyBenefits millions of times each month,” adds Shah. “The company is committed to providing online self-service tools and educational resources that give employees convenient and efficient ways to manage their benefits.”
