Governance comprises processes and systems by which organizations of all sizes operate. Government is just one of the many actors in the governance process with the balance of the actors including all stakeholders.
Corporate organizations often use the term governance to describe a manner in which boards direct a corporation and the laws and customs applied in that direction. Simply put, it is the process of decision-making and process by which such decisions are implemented. We see the term governance used in many situations and industries, particularly in the information technology sector, and that is where it is used to describe processes to follow for a successful department team and project.
I used the word actor above and I am borrowing this from the object-oriented analysis and development because I believe good governance needs to put in process, much like IT does proper projects.
