What is Health eHeadlines?

Health eHeadlines distributes an electronic newsletter called Consumer News Service that provides companies with a simple way to distribute helpful health information to their employees.   The newsletter includes articles and stories about health related issues that can be cut and pasted onto corporate intranets, websites, and newsletters.

Who Can Use Health eHeadlines?

Just about anyone in your company who is responsible for providing content for the corporate newsletter, intranet site, or bulletin boards; and realistically this job generally falls on the shoulders of HR.   According to the Health eHeadlines website their product can be used by the following:

§                 Do-it-yourself publication managers

§                 Small companies with no budget for health promotion but who want to "do something"

§                 Managed care groups looking for widely diverse health information

§                 Multi-site companies challenged to reach employees working onsite, on the road, at home or anywhere in the world

What I Liked

Helpful Hints

The site provided some helpful hints on how users could utilize the product and spice up their newsletters.   I thought some of the ideas were really good and could help employees to take a greater interest in health issues.

Personalization

To make the articles more personal, you can customize them to your site and company.   This can create greater interest from you audience, and also makes the look and feel of your newsletters or site more professional.

Wide Audience and Issues

The articles were aimed at an array of issues and wide audience, which I thought was good for capturing reader attention.   The sample issue that I reviewed had articles ranging from depression tips to exercise tips and addressed an audience ranging from teenage girls to the baby boomers.   This makes the information provided to employees relevant to their entire family.

What Could Be Improved

I didn´t find the newsletter very eye catching.   Although, if the majority of information is going to be cut and pasted onto other sources I guess it doesn´t have to be.   But if the newsletter was more appealing visually it may encourage companies to use the entire edition as a separate health newsletter, exposing their employees to all of the information.

I also thought that the company´s website was a bit scattered.   Nothing really jumped out at me to convince me to purchase the product.

Pricing Information

The cost of the newsletter is $79.95 per year.   Each issue comes with at least twenty stories that you can cut and paste into your company-specific newsletters or corporate intranet sites.

HR.COMments

It is a fairly interesting idea and provides corporate professionals with an easy way to distribute health material to employees.   The cost is also relatively inexpensive for the information you receive.   However unless I had a specific need for the information, such as an ongoing health newsletter that I distributed to my employees, I don´t think the newsletter would convince me to create one.
