"IPMA-CANADA ANNOUNCES 2006 NATIONAL HR AWARDS OF EXCELLENCE RECIPIENTS"

The International Personnel Management Association of Canada (IPMA-Canada) is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2006 National Awards of Excellence honoring the best human resources practices in Canada.

The International Personnel Management Association of Canada (IPMA-Canada) is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2006 National Awards of Excellence honoring the best human resources practices in Canada. Four awards were presented at the IPMA-Canada National Training Conference "Challenge to Change" Awards Luncheon on May 31, 2006 in Halifax, Nova Scotia.   The award recipients are:

 President´s Award     Dr. Terry Wagar, St. Mary´s University

Gold Star Agency Award     Northwood (Elder Care Service Provider)

National Honorary Life Member     Glenn Saunders, IPMA-CP

National Honorary Life Member      Mary Wagner, IPMA-CP

  President´s Award

The President´s Award is IPMA-Canada´s highest award and is presented to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the practice of human resources management in Canada. This award could be compared to the granting of an honorary doctoral degree by a University.

 This year, Dr. Terry Wagar, Professor of Industrial Relations and Human Resource Management in the Department of Management at Saint Mary´s University in Nova Scotia is the recipient of the prestigious President´s Award.  This award recognizes the professional background, accomplishments and contributions Dr. Wagar has made in the human resources community. The President´s Award recognizes Dr. Wagar´s significant contribution to the education of people in an academic setting as well as the corporate environment.  His efforts have greatly enhanced the understanding and appreciation of effective human resource management practices and the implications of those practices for organizations and individuals.

Gold Star Agency Award

The Gold Star Agency Award is presented to an organization which has made a significant contribution to the practice of human resources management in Canada.  In addition, the recipient of this award will be nominated by IPMA-Canada for the 2007 United Nations Public Administration Public Service Awards.

 This year, the recipient of the Gold Star Agency Award is Northwood.  Josie Ryan, Corporate Director, Organizational Health accepted the award on behalf of the organization.  Northwood is the largest and most innovative not-for-profit long-term care, independent living, home care and community outreach centre for seniors in Eastern Canada.  Northwood services over 6,000 clients throughout Nova Scotia and employs over 1200 employees with over 500 registered volunteers.  Northwood supports the creation of a healthy workplace and has strategically linked Northwood´s Health and Wellness Programs for employees and the corporate strategic direction with results supported by quantitative improvements in key areas such as absenteeism, accident rates and injury duration.  Northwood is congratulated on its proud history of service to the community and dedicated staff committed to serving others.

 NATIONAL HONORARY LIFE MEMBER

National Honorary Life Memberships recognize and honour individuals who have been outstanding members in support of the association´s goals and objectives over a significant number of years. 

 The two recipients of IPMA-Canada´s National Honorary Life Membership areGlenn Saunders of St. John´s, Newfoundland and Mary Wagner of Edmonton, Alberta.

 Glenn Saunders, IPMA-CP, is a dedicated volunteer with over 15 years of involvement with IPMA-Canada at the Chapter and National Executive level.  His ability to promote the strategic value of human resources in organizations and in the association is recognized by this award.  As well, IPMA-Canada´s International HR Certification Program is a success largely as a result of Mr. Saunders´ efforts working with IPMA-HR in the United States to partner on this program.

 The Newfoundland & Labrador Chapter Executive, the National Executive Council and human resource professionals who have had the opportunity to work with Mr. Saunders admire his leadership, commitment and hard work.  He is seen as a tireless supporter and promoter of IPMA-Canada and professional development.  Mr. Saunders is recognized as a leader within the association who demonstrates both by his actions and his words, the highest level of commitment.

 Mary Wagner, IPMA-CP, is recognized for her 10 years of involvement with IPMA-Canada at the Chapter and National Executive level.  Her dedication and professionalism are much appreciated by colleagues and peers across the country.

 The very successful 2002 IPMA-HR/IPMA-Canada International Conference held in Ottawa and the equally successful joint conferences held in Edmonton over the years are a testament to Mary´s leadership qualities and ability to build lasting partnerships.  Ms. Wagner is considered a role model and a mentor to many colleagues in the human resource profession and she demonstrates the highest level of integrity both personally and professionally.  It is not just what she does, but how she does it that is so appreciated  - Mary Wagner definitely "walks the talk".

 The Alberta and North Chapter Executive, the National Executive Council and human resource professionals and aspiring human resource professionals have been well served by Ms. Wagner´s leadership, mentorship, commitment and hard work in promoting both the organization and the profession.

 Congratulations to all of the nominees and the recipients of the 2006 IPMA-Canada Awards of Excellence.  You are commended for the wonderful work you are doing to promote the human resource profession in your community.
