"Building Creativity" Networking Event

The Human Capital Institute, Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management and the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business Offer "Building Creativity" Networking Event
Washington, D.C. - October 24, 2006 - The Human Capital Institute (HCI), a global professional association and educator in talent management strategies, Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management, and the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business, today announced that Dr. Leigh Thompson, award winning author and distinguished professor, will speak at the second in a series of B-School Network and Learn events for the greater Chicago business community.

The networking breakfast event will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2006, from 7:30 AM to 9:30 AM CT, in the James L. Allen Center at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

Thompson's presentation, "Building Creativity and Innovation in Teams," will debunk a common perception-that creative teams are compromised of creative people. Thompson will also show why brainstorming, as most organizations practice it, doesn't work. At this highly interactive session, participants will learn how to measure creativity, explore brainwriting, learn four new brainstorming guidelines, and discover how to improve the creative process.

"Professionals who attend the Chicago event will have the opportunity to break away from conventional thinking, and learn techniques and processes that have the potential to transform their organizations," said HCI's President & Executive Director Allan Schweyer.

Dr. Leigh Thompson is the J. Jay Gerber Distinguished Professor of Dispute Resolution & Organizations at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. She is the director of the ATT Behavioral Research Laboratory and the Leading High Impact Teams executive program at the Kellogg School.

Leigh Thompson's research focuses on negotiation, team creativity, and learning. She is the author of six books, including the highly popular "The Mind and Heart of the Negotiator," now in its third edition from Prentice Hall. She has also authored numerous articles and book chapters.

Thompson is a member of the editorial boards of Organization Behavior and Human Decision Processes; Journal of Experimental Social Psychology; Journal of Personality & Social Psychology; Journal of Behavioral Decision Making; International Journal of Conflict Management; and Group Decision and Negotiation. She has served on the selection panel of the Decision, Risk, and Management Program at the National Science Foundation and its program review committee. She was named a fellow of the American Psychological Society and is a member of the Academy of Management, American Psychological Association, Judgment and Decision Making Society, and Society for Experimental Social Psychologists.

Professionals interested in attending the event should call 866-538-1909 or visit HCI's website to register. For a list of Human Capital B-School events at prestigious universities throughout the U.S. and Canada, please visit: www.humancapitalinstitute.org
