LOS ANGELES – “Employer HelpCast,” a Website featuring labor and employment law related podcasts geared towards employers, HR executives and managers, has had its episodes downloaded more than 1700 times since the site’s official launch in June 2007.
Helene Wasserman, an attorney with Ford & Harrison and the creator of “Employer HelpCast,” attributes the high numbers to the site’s flexible methods of delivery and topical relevancy.
“We have created a means for employers, managers and HR executives to understand today’s important labor and employment issues on their own terms and at their own pace. The response has been phenomenal,” Wasserman said. “As long as we continue to keep our podcasts fresh, insightful and pertinent I am confident that our audience will continue to grow.”
Many of the site’s viewers have expressed their appreciation that information so crucial to their management needs is finally easily accessible.
“I’ve been in management for 35 years, and this site is invaluable for anyone working in a management role,” said Donna Drexler, Manager of Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. “This is must viewing for HR departments and managers of all kinds!”
Jerry Glass, President of F&H Solutions Group, a national management and human resources consulting firm affiliated with Ford & Harrison, was recently interviewed by Wasserman for a podcast discussing issues related to how employers can manage time lost as a result of sick leave, the Family Medical Leave Act, disability or workers compensation.
"The issues addressed in Helene's ‘Employer HelpCast’ are problems that my clients struggle with each day,” Glass said. “The podcasts are a terrific tool for the HR manager on the go, who has to juggle so many issues at the same time.”
While most Web sites judge their success based upon hits or visits, regardless of how long the reader remains on the site, Wasserman insists that the true measure of her site’s appeal can only be found by examining the number of people that download and listen to full podcasts. “We haven’t accomplished much if all someone does is stop by the site and then move on,” Wasserman said. “Our goal is for people to download a podcast and then listen to it in their office, their home or their car. And in a relatively short period of time, that has happened over 1700 times.”
To date, Wasserman’s most popular podcasts focus on how employers should deal with issues relating to sexual harassment, lost time management, hiring the right employee and how to overcome a fear of firing unwanted employees. She is currently working on an episode that will provide guidance and make suggestions as to how employers can use 21st Century technology to enhance their communications with their employees.
