Sir Gerry Robinson shares the benefits of walking the shop floor and suggests ways to make sure you get the most out of it. It’s easy, and inevitable, for those a long way from the coalface to lose touch with the real issues in an organization. People at the front line know a great deal more about the daily business, and the best way of finding ways to improve it is often to go and talk to them directly.   The more powerful a leader becomes, the more people will hang on their every word. As a consequence, leaders should be careful about what they say to avoid confusion and potential problems.   Often companies will concentrate on their successes and celebrate what's going well, rather than putting an adequate focus on the problem areas. However, there's nothing productive about reviewing what has been done well; organizations should concentrate on what can be done to improve.

The World According to Peter Drucker
This updated and expanded Third Edition provides facts, tips, and cautionary anecdotes gleaned from the experiences of more than 500 international business travelers. It is a guide to international behavior to help the overseas traveler avoid missteps and misunderstandings when abroad. This is not the definitive book on proper behavior, but its goal is to foster an appreciation and comprehension of cultural differences in the reader. The author makes us aware of just how much we do not know about the rest of the world. Thus, this is a first step in the business traveler´s preparation to become truly effective when dealing with other people and cultures.
