  Dealing With High-Maintenance Individuals
There will always be individuals who are difficult within an organization. These people need to be dealt with as soon as possible, clearly told what the rules of engagement are – and if the pain of dealing with them outweighs the gain, they have to go.

When people make put-down remarks, they often do so because they feel threatened in some way. But a senior manager must acknowledge that such behavior is not acceptable in the workplace. Explain the company values clearly, and make it plain that any deviance from this will not be tolerated.   There will always be people whose different personalities mean they don't see eye to eye. While you can't change this, helping them see each other's strengths will encourage them to work together more productively.   Bullying is often best dealt with through humor; but as a leader the best way to stop it happening in the first place is to encourage an open culture, and ensure that everyone knows from your action at the top that such behavior will not be tolerated.

Digital Rush: 9 Internet Startups in the Race for Dot-Com Riches
As a commercial entity, the Internet has emerged in record-setting time and created record-setting wealth. And though entrepreneurs, who can keep pushing the boundaries of the Net, stand to reap unprecedented rewards, there are no hard and fast rules for doing so and very little formal training that can prepare them to start an e-business or meet its many challenges. Experience has shown that every successful e-enterprise has taken a different path and created its own unique strategies. Digital Rush examines the business models of a select group of fast-growing Internet businesses, each at various stages of development. It goes behind the scenes and talks directly to the individuals who created these innovative companies, providing valuable insights on obtaining capital, finding good talent, creating effective advisory boards, cultivating strategic partnerships, planning for the future, providing excellent customer service, making the most of technology, creating good work environments, and much more how-to advice, offered to educate and motivate would-be Internet entrepreneurs.
