Encourage workforce Health, Wellness and Safety and promote a healthy, dynamic workforce. The outcome of these programs are easily determined by assessing decreases in lost-time injuries, improvements in sick days and other measurable data points. These programs tend to pay for themselves very rapidly. If you are considering running a Health, Wellness or Safety Incentive Program or are already running one to mixed results, this webinar is for you. The first half of the session will cover industry trends, best practices and updates on government rulings that may affect your programs. In the second half of the webinar, you will hear, first-hand, how Airgas East made their safety program a success.

We all know that no employee learns from a single exposure to a training. Indeed, within two hours, more than 50% of content is forgotten, and within a week, 95% is forgotten. It is no wonder training seldom results in transfer to the workplace.

This webinar will review four important techniques that overcome the forgetting curve. These techniques include booster quizzing, social elaboration, strategic coaching, and depth of processing.

In this hands-on webinar, we will teach HR professionals techniques to incorporate these techniques into both their formal and informal trainings. Within a week, your trainings will be significantly more effective and transfer will increase.

Workplace mental health issues present significant costs to Canadian businesses. Estimates are as much as $1,494 per person per year. How much does that add up to at your organization? These costs are not obvious, and are hidden in places like turnover, drug plans, absence, disability claims and presenteeism. However, they can be tackled while also improving employee engagement—if you have an integrative mental health program.

Whether your goal is to understand the impact of the recently released National Standard for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace, to develop a new strategy and plan or to improve what you are doing now, this webinar will provide the guidance you are looking for. Three industry experts will demonstrate how an approach that is measurable, integrative and flexible is able to deliver financial ROI and employee engagement.

Our presenters will identify successful approaches to identifying risks, building a business case, increasing leadership awareness and developing and training people managers and employees. During this webinar you’ll have an opportunity to compare your mental health readiness to the average of your competitors—getting instant, confidential results—with Morneau Shepell’s free Mental Health Pulse Check tool.

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (commonly referred to as the PPACA, or the health reform law) poses unique and complex challenges to employers everywhere. Although the law is already three years old, its signature provisions—and most onerous requirements—take effect January 1, 2014, just months from now.

Employers everywhere are scrambling to understand and comply with the law’s complex rules. The issues and challenges for employers vary significantly depending on employer size and industry sector. But the law will impact all employers in some way: financially, in hiring and retention, and in the great many administrative challenges the law imposes.

We look forward to helping you understand the impact of health care reform on your business.

Many traditional forms of recognition and compensation are not working and executives want to know why. It used to be easy; recognition was all about logoed, trophy-value awards that were custom-made to carry a lasting company message to predominantly Baby Boomer employees. Today, there are four distinct generations in the work force and the Millennials are demanding very different approachs to recognition and compensation … or at least that’s how it appears!

The vendors, who forever have been simply proving the “stuff” assuming that their clients know why they’re buying it and how to properly hand it out, are partly to blame. We as an industry have not done a very good job of teaching our customers the difference between recognition and compensation, how to best use these tools, and most importantly, how to measure the results and prove ROI.

This brief 15 minute session is the introduction to the two day event. There will be an overview of the sessions and speakers for the event, but more importantly, it will give you an overview of the IHR certification program and the progress we’ve made within the Institute. You will learn about the opportunity to become certified within the Health & Safety Institute and the other HR verticals that are available for either yourself or your colleagues. There will also be an introduction of the Institute's Advisory Board. You will be given guidance on how to chat online with colleagues and access the virtual exhibit hall. You will also have the opportunity to ask any questions as it relates to the overall program, prior to its commencement. Even if you have attended one of our events in the past, we’d still encourage you to attend. If this is your first time attending an event, the introduction will provide you an overview of the certification program.

This session will provide a background on how lean thinking and tools can help safety and any HR function. Following the teachings of W. Edwards Deming, Toyota created a production system, now commonly referred to as lean production. What is not well understood is that “lean” works in any office and business, regardless of size. Whether healthcare, small enterprise, food service, or non – profit, “lean” can help improve teamwork, culture and drive continuous improvement, but only if we go back to basics and strip away the mystery that this thinking is only for the manufacturing floor. Participants in the session will gain new insight into both “how” and “why” standards should be developed.

We often get requests for information on how to manage difficult people. Our work environment inevitably creates conflict situations on a daily basis. Conflict can be about the work (e.g. my approach versus yours, schedules, priorities) or about relationships (e.g. I don’t trust you, your style is different than mine). Conflict can be a source of creative solutions... but only if people understand both the value of conflict and how to resolve it. Join us to learn how you naturally respond to conflict and how you can leverage conflict for win-win outcomes.

Say “Goodbye” to anxiety when conflict arises!! As women we have an underutilized resource that can be leveraged to improve safety and environmental performance—our feminine energy that projects caring and empathy. These are key to preventing and resolving conflict.

Research consistently shows that women have leadership strengths and frequently receive higher performance reviews than men. Yet many women in EHS express frustration that their observations, opinions and ideas are not taken seriously, even in areas as basic as safety design for women’s bodies.

Now be honest ... not one woman in EHS can honestly say they don't experience conflict with co- workers and business associates. Do you understand the cause of conflicts in starting new programs, implementing solutions or finishing projects? If you're concerned with these questions ... or your response to these questions ... you're not alone.

Our webinar is strongly recommended for any woman in EHS who faces more work in less time and higher expectations from top management.

If OSHA has fallen off your radar screen, it is time to put it back on. Over the past two years, OSHA has been changing, and more changes are on the way. Employers in all industries are seeing a continued shift away from the government’s recent emphasis on cooperative efforts with employers to a more aggressive enforcement approach.

This presentation will briefly review the essential elements of OSHA compliance and an effective workplace safety and health program, with an eye to preparing for increased civil and criminal enforcement, as well as the use of safety issues to unions and a growing group of whistleblowers. The presentation will also explain how, when used properly, safety compliance can be a “profit center” and not another administrative cost.
