When is the last time you were a new employee? The experience is a little frightening, anxiety-inducing, exciting, and filled with hope and enthusiasm. If you think about it, it's a lot like going on a first date. The employee will wonder if they have made the right decision by joining their new company, they will hope there is a bright future with the company, and they hope their expectations are going to be met. These are the same thoughts and feelings you feel when you go on that first date.

The key in both cases is to turn the enthusiasm into engagement. Enthusiasm is fleeting. Engagement stands the test of time. Too often in our organizations we fail at this.
